In California counties, the density of alcohol outlets is restricted by the amount of current alcohol licenses in relative to the population count per census tract. Public health efforts in California to reduce illicit and excessive drinking target the distribution of on- (e.g., bars, restaurants) and off- (e.g., drug, grocery and general stores) premise retailers where alcohol can be easily accessible. Thus, establishments with license types of 20-21, 40-42, 47-48 were selected from the California Alcohol Beverage Control. However, since Napa is also a premiere wine growing region and the community were interested in looking at the topic, this map also includes wineries(type 2) and compliments another map that does not account for wineries. Census block data was used to intersect with alcohol outlet addresses; population counts from each block that were within 0.25 miles of at least one alcohol outlet were aggregated and divided by the total population of the census tract. Percentages ranged from 18.7% to 100%.

",
