Instructions for Data Requests on DVD

These instructions are for individuals requesting GIS data layers on DVD or external hard drive. Generally, this refers to government and non-profit agencies requesting a fee-waiver for data on DVD or private parties who wish to purchase the parcel attribute data. Please follow the instructions in the relevant sections below to complete your data request.

All Data Requests

Enter your data request on the Data Request Form on this website. Use the "Mail me a DVD" option at the bottom of the form. Be sure to list the data you would like in the Comments section. This puts your order into our tracking system.

Government Agencies and Non-Profits

If your request is on behalf of a government agency or a non-profit group, you are eligible to have the data fee waived. To have the fee waived, please send a request to this effect on your official letterhead to the GIS Coordinator. Contact info can be found on the GIS Home page. This letter is in addition to logging a data request as explained above.

Your written request should be on official letterhead and should include the following:

List of layers and attribute fields you are requesting

Request for a fee waiver

Statement of how the data will be used

Details on how the data will be stored and used in order to maintain the confidentiality of the data. The parcel attribute data and other confidential layers may not not be published or otherwise distributed to any other parties.

The GIS staff will also provide you with a disclaimer which must be signed and returned to us.

Purchasing Parcel Attribute Data

Attribute data such as situs and mailing addresses may be purchased from the Napa County Assessor's Office. The cost for this data is $35.00 for 100 parcels or less and $500.00 for a county-wide dataset. The price for datasets in between 100 parcels and the full set can be negotiated with the Assessor. Note: Price is determined by the Assessor and is subject to change

When making payment, please indicate that your request is for parcel attribute data from the GIS. You should also include a list of attribute fields that you would like.

The GIS Staff will be notified once payment is received and your order will be processed. The attribute data will be delivered in ESRI shapefile format. This file format includes a .dbf dBASE file that can be opened with Microsoft Excel.

Purchasing Other Data

All data layers that are available for electronic download can also be purchased on DVD or external hard drive. The cost is $24.00 per DVD or $225 per external hard drive, plus mailing costs. Once you have filled out the Data Request Form, the GIS Staff will contact you with an exact amount. Most of the data layers easily fit on one DVD. However, layers such as the orthophotos require multiple DVDs.
